WHAT IS EURIMUS? 1. Role of EURIMUS EURIMUS II is a EUREKA programme focusing on commercialisation of microsystems technology (MST or MEMS). EURIMUS II (E! 3190) capitalises on EURIMUS (E! 1884 ; 1998-2003). The purpose of EURIMUS II is to support the development of products and systems exploiting micro- and nano technologies as well as enabling technologies, manufacturing and equipment for all application domains. 2. EURIMUS and European context EURIMUS II is an industrial initiative within the EUREKA programme aiming to exploit the technologies developed through existing national and European programmes. EURIMUS II is one of six EUREKA cluster projects involving many large and small European companies seeking to strengthen European competitiveness in key technology areas. EURIMUS II encourages cooperation and coordination among European companies by promoting development in the area of MST / MEMS. EURIMUS II is complementary to existing European and national programmes and offers the route to fast market growth through European cooperation. More information about EUREKA is found here: EUREKA. 3. Objectives ? Accelerated innovation, growth and increased market share for European industry in products and systems based on microsystems technology (MST / MEMS) ? Promote industrially driven, market-oriented development projects ? Provide an efficient, streamlined infrastructure for project initiation, evaluation and monitoring 4. How can EURIMUS II assist? ? Help find project partners ? Provide guidance to project proposers ? The EURIMUS label is officially recognised by European authorities ? Promote projects to national funding authorities ? Monitor progress and provide assistance to projects in progress EURIMUS PROJECT PROFILE 1. Innovation EURIMUS projects must clearly show technical innovation in the future product (either through using new devices i.e. sensors, actuators, microstructures ..., or in the use of existing MEMS devices in the new application). 2. Market segments: ? Multimedia & Entertainment ? Automotive & Transport ? Medical & Biochemical ? Disabled care ? Energy management ? Industrial process control ? Aeronautics & Aerospace ? Geo-science ? Environment ? Electronic commerce ? Consumer products 3. Consortium At least two industrial companies from two different EUREKA countries + research teams from institutes / academia when required. 4. Business plan Describe the future market, business potential and production. Attention must be paid to the financial return on investment in each of the involved countries. 5. Budget balance The contribution from one country must not exceed 66% of the total budget. 6. Total budget It is recommended that the project is weighted towards industrial partners, and that the total budget is not less than 2 M€ with a duration between 2 and 3 years. |
